The Area

Big Pine Key is perhaps the best kept secret of the Florida Keys, but very well known by the locals. Perhaps most well known as being the home of the rather diminutive and endangered key deer, Big Pine Key is located just 20 miles from Key West making for the perfect day trip.

Bahia-Honda Key is one of the top rated natural beaches in the country and right out the window.

With several dive shops in the area and Looe Key just 5 miles offshore offering the largest living coral reef in North America, Big Pine Key is a mecca for diving and snorkel enthusiasts.  For more advanced divers, the scuttled Adolphis Busch is settled into deeper water just a few minute by boat further from Looe Key.

With both front water and back water access, saltwater fishing doesn't get much better.  Some of the best flats in the keys are right out the door.  And if you're like me, jump off the land and head right for that bluewater off-shore fix.

With the reef snuffing the surf, the perfect water is created for kiteboarding and windsurfing enthusiasts.  Add to this countless uninhabited mangrove keys makes a kayak the perfect medium for a nature cruise.

Locally we have a Winn-Dixie Supermarket, Walgreens, CVS and a Post Office all within biking distance.  There are several wonderful eateries including The Cracked Egg and Big Pine Restaurant.  the Noname Pub has one of the best pizzas in one of the more unusual atmospheres available.  For a more spirited experience just a 5 minute cab ride away two keys down is  Boondocks with its huge thatched roofs and world class miniature golf and  Looe Key Tiki Bar with their large selection of live and local entertainment.
